Important Announcement from the YSAA
The International Yoga Sports Federation (IYSF) is the international governing body for the sport of Yoga Asana worldwide. The sport of Yoga Asana aims to further human excellence as it promotes health and well being on both individual and community levels, through encouraging the practice of yoga asana.
The Yoga Sports Association Australia (YSAA) supports these goals and has been a strong supporter of the IYSF and a participant in the International Yoga Asana Championships for many years.
Recently the IYSF took an important step to try and reach out to a wider group of yoga students, of various lineages and styles of yoga, by broadening the range of compulsory postures each entrant may select from. This change and many others form the body of an entirely new set of IYSF rules and regulations covering these championship events.
The timing of the release of the new IYSF rules, however, has come when Australia would normally be holding regional championships around the country as a lead up to the Australian national event held early in the new year.
A decision has been made by the committee of the YSAA to postpone Australia’s participation in the yoga championships, for the time being, as we await news from IYSF on future yoga championship events.
